It’s time to toss the pre-packaged oatmeal for a healthier, more delicious option! Many people assume oatmeal takes too much time and requires cooking on the stovetop, but that’s not true! Making a delicious bowl or mason jar of oatmeal can be done in just 3 minutes! This is our favorite family recipe that can be easily modified with different add-ins to transform the flavor. Instead of refined cane sugar, I add real honey to both sweeten the recipe and add an extra immunity boost. Finally, including hemp seeds (loaded with brain-building omega-3 fats and lean protein) and chia seeds in your morning oatmeal creates a more balanced and filling meal making for happier kiddos! (I’ll take it!)
Ingredients (serves 1-2):
1/2 c gluten free organic rolled oats
2 Tbs hemp seeds
2 Tbs chia seeds
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp honey
1 – 1 1/4 cup boiling or very hot water (more for creamier oatmeal, less for thicker oatmeal)
OPTIONAL ADD-INS/FLAVOR COMBOS:
organic raisins + more cinnamon
frozen organic blueberries ( I add these after I make the oatmeal to cool it down quickly for the little ones)
goji berries + enjoy life chocolate chips
walnut pieces + diced apples
Directions:
1. Mix all ingredients, except water, in a mason jar or a bowl that you can cover with plate
2. Add very hot or boiling water (from your coffee machine or electric kettle or stovetop)
3. Let stand for 2- 3 minutes.
4. Mix and enjoy! Adjust flavor as needed with more honey or more toppings.
